The sun goes down late here--around 9:30, so it's hard to think about going to bed any earlier than 11:30. That, accompanied by jet-lag which reminds me that 11:30 pm is actually 3:30 pm in my brain, makes for a great deal of "sleeping in" until 9 am. So that's what we did this morning. Only this morning held a little surprise of it's own...
So sometimes when you travel--and every time we travel around the world--someone inevitably gets sick. It's just a matter of when. And this morning it was Dash's turn. He woke up complaining of a stomach ache, which is not uncommon for him. He usually mistakes hunger pains for a stomach ache. So I really didn't think much of it other than maybe this was because his colon was backed up and being that we are in Europe--the land of bread overdose--he had eaten way too much bread. About 20 minutes later I hear my name being shouted in the other room. So I come running, only to find Dash vomiting away. Only this was watery. Anyway, TMI, I know. So after about 5 more vomiting episodes at various places around the house, I decided it was more than just a backed up colon, and that it must be a little virus of some sort. So I wish I could say I did something really great today, but my day was spent tending to Dash. Good news was that by the afternoon he was begging for food, and honestly he was bottomless! The kid must have had a hollow leg because I couldn't keep him satisfied! Amazing and I'm so very thankful! So in early evening we took a short walk to the shore, to a small beach and park.

Econ Man, Tess and Declan, on the other hand, joined the others and headed out on a speed boat for some lake cruising. They swam, played, visited Yvoire-- a small town in France on the other side of the lake, and just generally enjoyed themselves.

When we returned from our walk we were met by the boaters and had a grill-out in the backyard--Econ Man loves to grill, so we ate as many different kinds of meet you can find in the grocery store, which tonight was pork, chicken, more pork, sausage, veal, and (most disgusting to think of) cheval--otherwise known by us as horse. Couldn't bring myself to eat that one. Rode too many of them. That'd be like eating dog, all the while thinking of my sweet dog friends.

So we stayed up much too late. But had a great time. Time with family is so precious, and becoming even more so as lives pull in different directions.
