I'm Mary-Catherine. Mother of two sons and a daughter, wife of Econ Man, a frequent traveler full of wonderlust. By day a profoundly exhausted Domestic Engineer: a cook, a referee, a psychologist, a nanny, a house cleaner, a computer operator, teacher, personal chauffer, laundress, interior designer, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, handy gal, groundskeeper, nutritionist, RN, logistics analyst, and day care teacher--all in all CEO of my domain. In a former life, a painter, a sculptor, a poet, a designer, a reader, an academic. But a woman who spurns definition by just one. My blogs chart our family's journeys around the world, searching out those unbelievable moments, both mundane and profound, that make me so happy to be alive.

Fun in the airport

Airports are not designed for kids. They themselves do not buy tickets, thus airports feel no obligation to engage then with comfort or entertainment while they wait for their own journeys to begin. Hence, parents are left to their own creativity--and what little bit of sanity they have left while in transit--to devise amusing diversions for their wee ones. And so our time with kids in airports usually follows. Today at Chicago O'Hare activities are no different. Thus, devoid of any play areas for little travelers, we find an unoccupied gate waiting area and let them run, crawl, scream, and play to their hearts content. This time with an unoccupied wheel chair used as a race car. And poles as a race course.

1 1/2 hour delay. Not leaving till after 9 now. More fun to be had...except we may run out of creativity and sanity very soon.
